Raw material consumption

ligneppr

PPR is a major paper consumer worldwide, notably in the printing of its catalogues. Accordingly, the Group pays particular attention to its paperconsumption and to the origin of the wood it uses. It also monitors other raw materials involved in its production as a whole.

Paper and wood

Within the reporting scope, PPR consumed some 266,000 tonnes of paper in 2006, including 81% purchased directly and intended for commercial activities. The environmental impact of this consumption naturally led the group to introduce an across-the-board policy covering all the stages of its operations, in particular through partnerships with its (wood and transport) suppliers. From production to recycling, this policy provides for stringent traceability, embodied in a centralised supply system and precise tracking of material consumption.

 - 65% of paper consumed is derived from forests certified as managed
- 100% of “Contact” magazines distributed to Fnac members are printed on recycled paper

Packaging and bags

Packaging and plastic bags are closely linked to the Group’s distribution and mail-order businesses. In 2006, group consumption of packaging and shopping bags amounted to 17,589 tonnes (plastic bags, plastic packaging, cardboard packaging). Numerous initiatives are gradually being set up with the aim of providing alternatives to this consumption (re-usable and biodegradable shopping bags, recycled natural Kraft paper…).

Other items consumed by PPR in 2006 were:

6,268 tonnes of plastic packaging (66% of it by Redcats)
9,737 tonnes of cardboard packaging (64% of it by Redcats)

Industrial raw materials

Within the reporting scope, the Group’s consumption of industrial raw materials is relatively small, since it only concerns two entities: YSL Beauté (glass and plastic bottles in the cosmetics and perfume businesses); and CFAO (ball-point pens, beer bottles, plastic packaging and citrus-fruit crates).
