PPR, a group mobilised on a sustainable footing
Fair trade, campaigning against AIDS, environment-friendly design or alternative transport are all themes that the Group’s retail companies wish to put forward during the 5th edition of the sustainable-development week.
From April 1st to April 7th 2007, the Group retail companies will give to its internal and/or external public the opportunity to discover or re-discover some of the major sustainable-development themes.
Fair trade at Fnac
Fair trade holds pride of place at Fnac In partnership with the fair-trade label Max Havelaar, Fnac is organizing in tens of its stores a series of events to sensitize the public to the progress and principles of this way of trade. The cornerstone of the event will be a photographic exhibition called Commerce équitable : la revolution dans une tasse de thé [Fair Trade: Revolution in a teacup]. The exhibition was mounted by Jean-Luc Luyssen, of the Gamma agency and represents 20 photographys in 40X50 size depicting the Makaibari plantation in the heart of India’s Darjeeling tea-growing area. This plantation is one of the most advanced agricultural communities in the implementation of fair-trading principles. In the meantime, three short 3-minute movies will be shown to the public to foster awareness of the consumer’s essential role in the development of fair trade. The proceedings are rounded off with tea tastings as the pretext for discussion meetings focusing on fair trade.
CFAO against HIV / AIDS
Dates coincide at CFAO: this 5th edition of the sustainable-development week fits with the 5th anniversary of its commitment to fight against AIDS. To celebrate the event, CFAO is planning to show at its head office, and in the 26 countries where the AIDS program is deployed, films on the theme of HIV / AIDS, entitled Scénarios d’Afrique [African scenarios].
Following a contest organised by the Global Dialogues NGO, these films were shot by world-renowned film directors from a selection of original ideas made by young Africans who eagerly took this fascinating opportunity to act and get others to act against AIDS. Since 1997, this initiative has attracted contributions from over 100.000 young people coming from 35 African countries, and 31 films have been shot by African directors.
Conforama mobilised to limit the environmental impact of its activities
Due to the success of the various sustainable-development events organised at the head office in 2006, Conforama is repeating the endeavour by presenting to its staff, through an exhibition and discussion meetings, three innovative schemes in its sustainable-development policy.
A conference will be held on environmentally-friendly design and on the development of a first range of eco-designed furniture. The retailer will also be presenting its barge transport policy, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and its decision to switch from its plastic shopping bags to conventional re-usable shopping baskets in 2007. Conforama is thus asserting its determination to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment.
