Conforama’s recruitment policy: recruiting future managers from their source

Conforama is waiting to meet you

With its 158 owned stores and its 10,100 employees across France, Conforama is currently the leader of the French furniture market and this year is offering some one hundred management positions which are available essentially within the fields of Store Director, Department Manager, Administration Manager and Stock Manager in all regions.

To meet its demands, Conforama decided to launch a national recruitment event on 29th October. The principle is simple: a national employment day held in seven cities across France (Paris, Lille, Lyon, Marseilles, Toulouse, Nantes and Strasbourg), with an original concept “What is making them run…Chloe or Paul?” in order to meet the applicants in the very heart of their region in a friendly atmosphere, making exchange easier. This recruitment campaign was strongly advertised in the national and regional press, on recruitment sites, not to mention by a poster campaign in nearby stores and businesses and thanks to radio interviews broadcast on BFM and RMC.

Beyond the sourcing objective, this meeting was organised with a wider scope of actions. It has enabled Conforama to:

  • Dynamise national and local recruitment by coming to meet applicants
  • Spread awareness of the opportunities and career development for the managerial jobs in stores
  • Support and mobilise the Store and HR personnel around the issue of recruitment
  • Create a positive momentum around the Conforama Brand as an Employer.

Applicants had to visit www.canalconfo.com, where they could find more information on the brand’s universe, careers and its People. Tempted? They just had to apply online on www.casertdecourir.fr, a link opened especially for this operation from the 15th to 26th October 2007. The profiles selected by the Regional Managers of Human Resources received an invitation to take part in “The CONFORAMA employment day” from 9am to 8pm, in the city of their choice.
Results: over some 10 days, 1,349 CVs were posted on the website www.casertdecourir.fr, 289 invitations were sent out for a regional interview and 193 interviews were carried out in stores on 29th October.

“The principal attraction of our jobs is the real career development that we offer our employees, linked to the essential notion of mobility, hence the need to meet the needs by using an essentially internal recruitment policy and generating talent from within the business,” explains Lucie Capeller, Manager of Human Resources for the Toulouse Languedoc Roussillon region.

This day was a success for the stores, which claim to have found pertinent and diverse profiles. On 28th November, 19 applicants were recruited thanks to this operation, including 15 for Department Manager positions, 3 for Stock Manager positions and 1 Store Director.
