Conforama optimises its logistics flows

In summary

Subject: Optimising logistics flows
Entity concerned: Conforama
Date: 2007
Extract: developing its river transport, which emits less CO2, for import containers

Based on a rationale for optimised logistics flows, Conforama has established one of its logistics platforms in the Paris Val Bréon distribution hub, where sustainable development is taken into account.

Conforama was in fact looking for a site east of Paris to serve its stores in the Paris region and Eastern France. To meet the environmental criteria set by Conforama, the location had to have a rail link and fit in harmoniously with the environment, by taking into account land-use coefficients, the number of trees, etc. The stability of the employment zone was also a selection criterion.

The proximity of the Seine and the river ports of Gennevilliers and Bonneuil sur Marne will allow Conforama to continue developing its river transport, which emits less CO2, for import containers arriving from the port of Le Havre.

Conforama already uses river transport for its logistics platform in Lyon. In four years, the use of this form of transport has prevented 13,500 trucks from driving through the Rhone valley.
